Due to the increase in ironing requests during the last week at the Lilydale Supa Launrette, thought it might be helpful to post a few helpful ironing tips and tricks.
First up, and I know this sounds really obvious, if you shake the item you want to iron when you pull them out of the washing machine and then hang them up on a coat hanger straight away then it will dry quicker and less wrinkly.
Next make sure to check the temperature on your iron, this ensures that your not going to singe your clothes. Also make sure that you test the iron on the ironing board or a spare bit of cloth/towel before you start ironing. This just lets you see that the iron is hot enough and that there are no marks on the surface of the iron that could mark your clothes.
Remember to not use circular strokes when ironing as this can stretch the fabric, always iron lengthwise and if there are particularly stubborn creases blast them with steam and most of the time, they come straight out.
A trick to save time on your ironing is to place a piece of aluminium foil under your ironing board cover. This means that the heat from the iron gets reflected back onto the garment. This tip saves you time but you have to be extra vigilant because the clothes can heat up faster.
Most people agree that when ironing a shirt specifically, you start with the sleeves and work through the rest of the shirt always moving the freshly ironed surfaces away from you to prevent more wrinkles.
Hopefully these few tips help they are ones that I practise when I'm doing the washing at the Lillydale Supa Laundrette. If you have any questions or queries please contact us
